Back Pain Remedies - Start Getting Some Relief

Suffering from back pain? Looking for ideas of some back pain remedies to help bring some relief?

Then you've come to the right place!

If not, chances are you will experience the agony of a bad back at some point in your life. Low back pain ranks fifth on the list of most common health issues people go to the doctor for. And at least once in their lives, 90% of Americans experience back pain.

If you are experiencing back pain, especially prolonged or chronic back pain, we highly recommend you seek medical attention. However, there are some relatively easy, inexpensive and effective back pain remedies you can try on your own.

In the first 48 hours after sustaining a back injury ice may be a useful treatment to try on your back. Ice helps by reducing the swelling and inflammation in your back and also by numbing the painful area in your back and slowing down the nerve impulses which reduces the number of pain messages flowing to your brain. If you use ice, be sure to only keep on your back for short periods of time (15 - 20 minutes) and place some sort of barrier between the ice and your skin like a towel.

While ice works well, so does heat. Heat increases the blood flow to the area and increases blood circulation. This works to relax your back muscles and loosen them up. To apply heat, try heat wraps (ie. Thermacare (r) Heatwraps), a hot shower or bath, heating pads or warm gel packs.

We're going to look at two other opposites that can also prove to be effective back pain remedies - rest and exercise.

Rest doesn't need a lot of explaining. Find a comfortable place to kick your feet up, take the pressure off your back and just relax. The more things you can do, like listening to soothing music, to help you completely and totally relax your muscles, the better.

Exercise has also been helpful for people experiencing back pain. Walking, stretching, swimming, and yoga are popular exercise programs that people seeking back pain relief turn to. The increased blood flow, strengthening of the muscles and stretching of the muscles can help reduce pain as well as make the back stronger to prevent future injury.

So there are a few back pain remedies you can try at home and for relatively low cost to try to get some back pain relief. We've only begun to scratch the surface however, as there are a number of other options available for back pain sufferers that we will explore soon.
